On Monday, Ducere hosted an exclusive networking event for our MBA cohort held at Ducere’s industry partner, NAB, located in Docklands. Our MBA students were treated to a day of industry discussion with some of Melbourne’s most high profile business leaders. This culminated in a illuminating panel discussion with Leonard Hamersfeld – Director and Founder of Buzz products, Genevieve George – Founder and MD of OneShift and CEO of Chugg Entertainment, Matthew Lazarus-Hall.

The panel discussion focused on a range of business topics with a real focus on entrepreneurship and innovation in the modern world.
Failure was a topic raised by one of our MBA students and Genevieve George addressed it as something that can happen and not to let it weigh you down.
“Once, I called a radio station an hour before an interview and accidently got through to the presenters during their show. It happens. You just have to accept it and move on.”
Entrepreneurship was discussed as an important concept to foster within your company, which chairperson Professor Lawrence Pratchett, Academic Fellow and Dean of Business, Government and Law at the University of Canberra, termed “intrapreneurship”. This allows businesses to move quickly and efficiently to deal with changes in the workplace.

Exploring new opportunities was another key point raised for the panel, with Leonard Hamersfeld pointing to the rise of China as a potential growth market. They also looked at Melbourne as an ideas hub and a great city to be an entrepreneur.

Jack Hylands, head of Ducere’s MBA, said the event was an enourmous success, with Ducere students once again exposed to business insights that are unparalleled in any Australian MBA course. We would also like to thank our industry partners, NAB, and the University of Canberra, for making the event possible.
